YU55 Asteroid Approach Nov. 8, 2011?

NASA has said that the YU55 asteroid will p between us and the moon, but it won't impact with Earth. Given how close it will be to us, does anyone feel there is a chance that they are lying to avoid panic and religious repercussions? With technology everywhere these days, they can't hide its approach, so maybe this is their only other option??
